I was taking pictures in Hoi An when this old woman called me and by a sign she told me that I could take a picture of her… After taking the portrait she asked me if I wanted some bananas and she told me that she was 92 years old and she was selling bananas because she was hungry. I bought her some of them.

She lives in Hoi An and sells those little lanterns everyday at sunset. If you buy one, you make a wish and you set it in the river. Sunset is a magic moment in Hoi An when lots o lanterns float in the river.
H’mong woman, Sapa, Vietnam
She is a H’mong ethnic group woman and she lives in Sapa. She is 25, she has 3 children and she speaks vietnamese, her own ethnic group language and the english she learnt at school. She lives in a little village and she goes to Sapa downtown to sell bags, scarfs, jewelry and so on to tourists.

Dzao women, Sapa, Vietnam
When you go out in Sapa, for a walk, you get surrounded by many women in a few seconds trying to sell all kind of things: scarfs, fabric, jewelry, bags… And they always follow the same steps: “hello madame”, “what’s your name?”, “Have you got any children?”….. etc. They follow you in your way trying to start a talk and then offer their products…
This five women followed me in a walk and after buying them some handbags, I asked them for some portraits. They are Dzao ethnic group women and they are distingüished by their red headdresses. When taking the pictures, they were happy to pose for the portrait and after that, watching them in my camera… All of them except one…. the last one. When I asked her for her portrait, she said to me “but… I am old”…
She was around 40, no more, but she was feeling quite old to take a picture of her…..
